FIELD GUIDE
Before the next pull
Stop and assess
Set the brake, stabilize the vehicle, check injuries, terrain, rollover risk, weather and daylight before touching recovery gear.
Build a safe line
Use rated points and gear. Clear the recovery zone, use a damper, communicate one plan and keep bystanders well away from loaded lines.
Make yourself findable
Record coordinates, trail name, nearest junction, vehicle description, direction of travel and the condition of everyone present.
Conserve and communicate
Send one complete message, preserve battery, stay with the vehicle when safe, manage warmth and water, and avoid creating a second emergency.
